Students don't struggle because the SAT is impossibly hard.

They struggle because everyone seems to have an opinion about the SAT.

Your cousin who took it four years ago.

Your school senior.

That random Reddit user named MathNinja420.

Even the neighbour's uncle who somehow has strong opinions about every exam ever created.

Everyone talks.

Very few actually know what they're talking about.

So let's make a deal.

Forget everything you've heard for the next fifteen minutes.

By the end of this guide, you'll know exactly what the Digital SAT is, how it works, what it tests, how it's scored, and—most importantly—how you should prepare for it.

No unnecessary drama.

No miracle shortcuts.

No "secret hacks."

Just the things that actually matter.

...we need to have a conversation.

The SAT isn't an achievement badge.

It doesn't guarantee admission.

It doesn't define your intelligence.

And contrary to popular belief...

No, colleges don't gather around a giant screen saying,

Admissions are far more holistic than that.

Your grades, essays, extracurricular activities, recommendations, and overall profile matter too.

The SAT is important.

It just isn't your entire personality.

The Biggest Myth About the Digital SAT

Every single year, I hear this.

"Sir... I've heard the SAT is becoming harder every year."

I usually smile and ask,

"Who told you that?"

The answer is almost always one of these:

"My senior."

"My friend."

"YouTube."

Interesting.

These are also the same sources that confidently predict every IPL winner, every election result, and occasionally the end of the world.

Here's the truth.

The SAT isn't necessarily getting harder.

It's getting smarter.

The exam no longer rewards students who simply memorise hundreds of formulas or obscure vocabulary words.

Instead, it asks something much more interesting.

Can you think?

Can you interpret information?

Can you identify patterns?

Can you solve problems efficiently under time pressure?

Can you read carefully without falling for traps?

Notice something.

Those are skills.

Not facts.

And skills are built through practice—not panic.

So... What Exactly Is the Digital SAT?

Let's remove the mystery.

The Digital SAT is a standardized entrance exam administered by the College Board.

Students across the world take it as part of their university application process, particularly for colleges in the United States.

The exam measures two broad abilities:

  • Reading & Writing

  • Mathematics

That's it.

No Chemistry.

No Physics.

No History.

No General Knowledge.

No essay that begins with:

"Write 500 words on the importance of discipline."

(Your English teacher may be disappointed.)

If you've heard horror stories about the old paper SAT, relax.

The Digital SAT introduced several changes that actually made the experience more student-friendly.

Passages are shorter.

The interface is cleaner.

A built-in calculator is available for all Math questions.

The test itself is shorter than before.

In many ways, the Digital SAT feels less like an endurance marathon and more like a well-paced strategy game.

And strategy, fortunately, can be learned.

Here's Something Most Students Don't Realise

The SAT isn't trying to find the smartest student in the room.

It's trying to find the student who makes the fewest avoidable mistakes.

Those are two very different people.

I've seen brilliant students lose marks because they rushed.

I've seen average students score exceptionally well because they stayed calm and solved one question at a time.

One of my students once walked into class looking absolutely defeated.

"Sir," he sighed, "I think I'm just bad at SAT."

I looked at his mock test.

Out of the 18 questions he got wrong...

11 were silly mistakes.

Not difficult questions.

Not concepts he didn't know.

Just...

  • reading except as accept,

  • skipping the word NOT,

  • entering 12.5 instead of 125,

  • clicking the option above the one he intended.

His knowledge wasn't the problem.

His attention was.

A month later, after slowing down just a little and becoming more deliberate, his score improved by over 130 points.

Same student.

Same brain.

Different habits.

That's why, throughout this guide, I'll keep reminding you of one thing:

The SAT is often won by consistency, not brilliance.

Understanding the Digital SAT Pattern

Now that we've cleared away some of the myths surrounding the SAT, it's time to answer the question almost every student asks next.

"What does the exam actually look like?"

Fair question.

After all, it's much easier to prepare for a challenge when you know exactly what you're walking into.

Imagine you're playing a video game.

You clear Level 1.

The game quietly watches how you performed.

If you sailed through it, Level 2 becomes a little more challenging.

If you struggled, it adjusts accordingly.

No dramatic announcement.

No flashing message saying,

"Congratulations! You've unlocked Hard Mode."

It simply happens in the background.

That's more or less how the Digital SAT works.




Before you panic, let me reassure you.

A more difficult second module isn't bad news.

In fact, it's often a sign that you've done well in the first one and are now being given an opportunity to demonstrate a higher level of proficiency.

So if a student walks out saying,

"The second Math module was brutal."

...don't automatically assume they had a terrible exam.

Sometimes that's exactly what happens when you've performed strongly.





One of my students once walked out of a mock test looking completely defeated.

"Sir," he sighed, "I think something went horribly wrong."

"What happened?"

"The second Math module was impossible."

I looked at his score report.

He had done exceptionally well in the first module, so the adaptive system responded by giving him a more challenging second module.

His final score?

1490.

Sometimes the SAT's way of complimenting you feels suspiciously like punishment.

Adaptive Testing—Explained Without the Technical Jargon

The Digital SAT has two sections:

  • Reading & Writing 

  • Mathematics

Each section is divided into two modules.

So, in total, you'll complete four modules during the exam.

Here's the important part.

Your performance in Module 1 influences the difficulty of Module 2within the same section.

That means:

  • Your Reading & Writing performance affects only the second Reading & Writing module.

  • Your Math performance affects only the second Math module.

The two sections are independent of one another.

Think of them as two separate stories unfolding during the same exam.

Does Everyone Receive the Same Questions?

Not necessarily.

And that's perfectly normal.

The student sitting next to you may see several questions that are completely different from yours.

The College Board draws questions from a large pool and assembles different versions of the test that are designed to be statistically comparable in difficulty.

So don't waste precious energy wondering,

"What did you get for Question 14?"

There's a decent chance your Question 14 wasn't even the same as theirs.

Besides, discussing answers during the exam isn't exactly recommended.

How Long Is the Digital SAT?

Here's a piece of good news.

Compared with the older paper-based SAT, the Digital SAT is noticeably shorter.

The exam takes approximately 2 hours and 14 minutes, excluding the scheduled break between the Reading & Writing and Math sections.

Long enough to test your focus.

Thankfully, not long enough for you to start negotiating with the universe.

The Digital Testing Experience

Gone are the days of carrying a fistful of sharpened pencils and wondering whether you filled the answer bubbles dark enough.

The Digital SAT is taken through the Bluebook™ testing application, which runs on a laptop or tablet.

The interface is clean, intuitive, and surprisingly easy to navigate—even if technology isn't exactly your best friend.

You'll also find several built-in features designed to make the testing experience smoother.

These include:

  • A countdown timer

  • The ability to flag questions for review

  • Annotation and highlighting tools for Reading & Writing passages

  • A built-in Desmos Graphing Calculator for every Math question

  • A digital reference sheet containing commonly used mathematical formulas

If you prefer using your own handheld calculator, you may also bring an approved calculator, provided it meets the College Board's guidelines.

One of the biggest advantages of the Digital SAT is that there is no separate "calculator" and "non-calculator" Math section. You can use the available calculator tools throughout the entire Math section, allowing you to focus on solving problems rather than worrying about when you're allowed to calculate.

Of course, there's one small catch.

A calculator can help you compute an answer.

It can't help you decide what to compute.

Unfortunately, Desmos hasn't learned to read minds yet.

What Should You Actually Focus On?

Many students become fascinated by the adaptive algorithm.

They spend hours watching YouTube videos trying to decode it.

They dive into Reddit discussions debating mysterious scoring formulas.

Some even try to predict their final score based on whether they found Module 2 "easy" or "hard."

Here's my advice.

Don't.

The adaptive system isn't something you can outsmart.

It's simply the framework within which the exam operates.

Your job is much simpler.

Answer the question in front of you.

Then answer the next one.

Then the next.

One careful decision at a time.

Ironically, students who stop obsessing over the algorithm often end up scoring better than those trying to reverse-engineer it.

Funny how that works.

 

 

Understanding the Digital SAT Syllabus

Now that you know how the Digital SAT is structured, let's look at what you'll actually be tested on.

We'll explore the Reading & Writing and Mathematics sections in detail, break down the topics that matter most, and separate genuine preparation priorities from the myths that tend to circulate online.


 

Understanding the Digital SAT Syllabus

By this point, you know how the Digital SAT works.

Now comes the obvious question.

"What exactly do I have to study?"

This is usually the moment when students open fifteen browser tabs, download six PDFs, and somehow end up reading a forum thread from 2018.

Let's save you the trouble.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the SAT is that it has an enormous syllabus.

It doesn't.

In fact, compared to many school and entrance examinations, the SAT is remarkably focused.

There are only two sections:

  • Reading & Writing 

  • Mathematics

That's the entire exam.

You don't have to revise every subject you've studied since middle school. Instead of testing the breadth of your academic knowledge, the SAT measures a smaller set of skills—but it expects you to apply those skills consistently under time pressure.

That's an important distinction.

The exam isn't asking,

"How much have you memorised?"

It's asking,

"Can you think clearly, analyse information, and solve problems accurately?"

One rewards memory.

The other rewards reasoning.

Guess which skill universities value more.


 

Reading & Writing: It's More Than Just English

Let's clear up another misconception.

Many students hear "English section" and immediately think,

"I'm fluent in English. This should be easy."

Not so fast.

The SAT isn't testing whether you can order a coffee in New York or hold a conversation with your cousin in Boston.

It's testing whether you can understand an author's argument, interpret evidence, improve the clarity of a sentence, recognise logical relationships, and identify how ideas fit together.

In other words...

It's less about knowing English.

It's more about thinking in English.




"The SAT isn't trying to measure how much English you've memorised. It's trying to measure how clearly you can think using English."

You'll encounter short passages drawn from literature, science, social science, and the humanities.

Don't worry.

The College Board isn't expecting you to arrive with a degree in astrophysics or nineteenth-century philosophy.

Everything you need to answer the question is contained within the passage itself.

Your job is simply to read carefully, think critically, and resist the temptation to jump to conclusions.

The Four Skill Areas You'll See on Test Day

The Reading & Writing section broadly assesses four types of skills.

At first glance, their names may sound a little intimidating.

Fortunately, they're much simpler than they appear.

Can you understand what the passage is saying?

Identify the main idea, locate supporting evidence, or draw a logical inference from the passage.

Craft & Structure

Can you interpret words, tone, purpose, and relationships?

Infer the meaning of a word from context or explain why the author chose a particular phrase.

Can you improve clarity, organisation, and effectiveness?

Choose the sentence that makes a paragraph flow better or strengthens an argument.

Standard English Conventions

Can you recognise correct grammar and punctuation?

Correct subject–verb agreement, punctuation, pronouns, sentence boundaries, or verb forms.

See?

Those labels sound far less frightening once they're translated into everyday language.

A Small Secret About High Scorers

Students aiming for 1500+ don't read every passage twice.

They don't memorise thousands of obscure vocabulary words.

And they certainly don't possess some magical "SAT brain."

What they do have is a habit of asking themselves a few simple questions while reading.

  • What is the author really trying to say?

  • Why has this sentence been included?

  • How does this paragraph connect to the previous one?

  • Which answer choice is actually supported by the passage?

Those tiny questions make an enormous difference.

The SAT rarely rewards assumptions.

It rewards evidence.

If you ever catch yourself choosing an answer because,

"It sounds right..."

...pause for a moment.

The correct answer usually isn't the one that sounds the most convincing.

It's the one the passage actually supports.

And yes, those are often two very different things.

Grammar Isn't About Memorising Fifty Rules

Here's another pleasant surprise.

The grammar tested on the SAT is surprisingly predictable.

No one is going to ask you to identify the future perfect continuous passive voice while balancing on one foot.

Instead, the exam focuses on the kinds of edits that make writing clearer and more precise.

You'll encounter questions involving topics such as:

  • Subject–verb agreement

  • Pronouns

  • Verb forms and consistency

  • Punctuation

  • Sentence boundaries

  • Logical transitions

Notice something?

These aren't random grammar drills from school.

You're essentially stepping into the shoes of an editor.

Your job isn't to show off complicated grammar terminology.

It's to improve the quality of the writing in front of you.

And that's a skill you'll use long after the SAT is over.

 

 

One Final Thought Before We Move to Math

Many students spend months hunting for "advanced English" material because they believe that's the secret to a high score.

In reality, the biggest improvements usually come from mastering the fundamentals—reading carefully, recognising evidence, understanding sentence structure, and avoiding careless mistakes.

The Reading & Writing section doesn't reward students who know the most difficult words.

It rewards students who pay the closest attention.

That's a very different challenge—and fortunately, it's one you can improve with deliberate practice.


 

Mathematics: Don't Let the Name Scare You

Let's be honest.

For many students, the word "Math" has the same emotional effect as hearing your teacher say,

"Take out a blank sheet of paper."

Instant panic.

I've met students who introduce themselves like this.

"Sir, I'm good at English...

...but I'm terrible at Math."

Almost as though it's a permanent personality trait.

Here's the good news.

The SAT doesn't expect you to be a mathematician.

It expects you to be a good problem solver.

There's a difference.

You aren't being asked to invent new formulas.

You aren't expected to prove complicated theorems.

And thankfully, nobody is going to ask you to derive something that would make Isaac Newton raise an eyebrow.

Instead, the SAT focuses on the kind of mathematics you'll actually encounter in college-level coursework and everyday decision-making.

The emphasis is on reasoning.

Not memorisation.

So... What Kind of Math Does the SAT Test?

Broadly speaking, the Math section revolves around four major skill areas.

Solve a linear equation or interpret the slope of a graph.

Working with more complex algebraic expressions and functions.

Solve a quadratic equation or simplify a polynomial expression.

Analyse survey results, calculate percentages, or compare data trends.

Geometry & Trigonometry

Applying geometric properties and basic trigonometric concepts.

Find the area of a figure, determine an angle, or use the Pythagorean theorem.

Notice something.

The topics themselves probably don't surprise you.

You've seen most of them in school.

The SAT simply asks them in a different way.

Instead of saying,

"Solve this equation."

it may wrap the same concept inside a business scenario, a scientific experiment, or a graph.

The mathematics hasn't changed.

The presentation has.

The Real Challenge Isn't the Calculation

Here's something that surprises many students.

Most incorrect answers on the SAT Math section happen before the calculation even begins.

Not because students forgot a formula.

But because they misunderstood the question.

One student of mine spent nearly two minutes solving a beautifully complicated equation.

Everything was correct.

Every step.

Every calculation.

Every simplification.

Unfortunately...

The question had asked for the value of x + 2.

He found x.

Perfectly.

Wrong answer.

He looked at me afterwards and said,

"Sir... that's painful."

I couldn't disagree.

The SAT quietly rewards careful readers and politely punishes hurried ones.

Calculator Skills Won't Save You

One of the biggest misconceptions about the Digital SAT is this:

"Since we have Desmos, Math should be easy."

If only life worked that way.

Yes, the Bluebook app provides the Desmos Graphing Calculator throughout the Math section.

And yes, it's an incredibly useful tool.

It can graph equations, identify intersections, estimate solutions, and help you visualise relationships far more quickly than many handheld calculators.

But here's the catch.

Desmos only does what you ask it to do.

If you graph the wrong equation...

You'll get the wrong graph.

If you solve the wrong problem...

You'll get the wrong answer.

Technology reduces computation.

It doesn't replace understanding.

Think of Desmos as an exceptionally smart assistant.

Not as someone who secretly takes the exam for you.

(If only.)

Mental Math Still Matters

This often surprises students.

Even though you have access to Desmos, using it for every question is actually a bad strategy.

Sometimes it's faster to calculate mentally.

For example,

  • 25% of 80

  • 3 × 18

  • Simple fractions

  • Basic percentages

Opening the calculator for questions like these is a bit like using Google Maps to walk to your next-door neighbour's house.

Technically possible.

Entirely unnecessary.

Strong SAT students know when to use technology...

...and just as importantly...

when not to.

The Formula Sheet Is Helpful—Not Magical

The Digital SAT also provides a reference sheet containing commonly used formulas.

That's convenient.

But don't treat it as a substitute for preparation.

Imagine cooking dinner while checking the recipe after every single step.

Eventually you'll finish...

But it won't be very efficient.

The same principle applies here.

The more familiar you are with the formulas beforehand, the more mental energy you'll have available for solving the actual problem.

And on a timed exam, that's often the difference between finishing comfortably and racing against the clock.

What Really Improves Your Math Score?

Students often ask me,

"Sir, which chapter should I study first?"

Honestly?

That's not the first question I'd ask.

I'd ask this instead.

Why are you losing marks?

Is it because you don't understand algebra?

Or because you rush?

Is it because you struggle with graphs?

Or because you misread units?

Is it because you don't know the concept?

Or because you panic under time pressure?

Those are very different problems.

And they require very different solutions.

The highest scorers don't simply practise more questions.

They spend time understanding why they got questions wrong.

That's where improvement actually begins.

Reading & Writing and Math Have Something in Common

At first glance, the two sections couldn't look more different.

One is full of passages.

The other is full of equations.

Yet the skill that connects them is exactly the same.

Careful thinking.

The Reading & Writing section asks,

"Can you interpret ideas accurately?"

The Math section asks,

"Can you apply ideas accurately?"

Different questions.

Same mindset.

And once you realise that, the SAT starts feeling much less like two separate exams...

...and much more like one carefully designed test of reasoning.

So, How Is the SAT Actually Scored?

Now that we've explored what appears on the exam, let's tackle another question that creates endless confusion:

How does the SAT scoring system work?

Do harder modules automatically mean higher scores?

Is there negative marking?

Can one bad section ruin your overall score?

Let's clear that up next.

 

 

 

Understanding the Digital SAT Scoring System

Let's play a quick game.

Imagine you finish your SAT and walk out of the testing centre.

Your friend asks,

"How many questions did you get right?"

You confidently reply,

"I think... maybe 82."

Your friend nods wisely.

"Ah! So you'll probably get around 1480."

No.

That's not how the SAT works.

In fact, one of the biggest misconceptions about the exam is that there's a simple formula connecting the number of correct answers to your final score.

There isn't.

And honestly...

That's probably a good thing.

The SAT Doesn't Simply Count Correct Answers

Most school exams work like this.

Correct answer?

+1.

Wrong answer?

  1.  

Total them up.

Done.

The SAT is a little more sophisticated.

Your final score depends not only on how many questions you answer correctly but also on which set of questions you receive during the adaptive test.

Remember the adaptive modules we discussed earlier?

The College Board uses statistical methods to ensure that students who receive different question sets are scored fairly.

That means two students can answer a slightly different mix of questions and still receive comparable scores if their overall performance is similar.

So don't spend hours searching for magical score-conversion charts on the internet.

Most of them are, at best, rough estimates.

Your Score Range

The total SAT score ranges from 400 to 1600.

It is made up of two section scores.

Simple.

Half the score comes from Reading & Writing.

The other half comes from Math.

No section secretly carries extra weight.

No hidden bonus points.

No "double marks" for difficult questions.

Is There Negative Marking?

Here's some wonderfully stress-relieving news.

No.

The Digital SAT has no negative marking.

Read that again.

If you answer a question incorrectly, you simply don't receive credit for it.

You are not penalised with additional deductions.

Which means leaving a question blank is almost never a good strategy.

If you're genuinely unsure, make your best educated guess.

A guessed answer has a chance of being correct.

A blank answer does not.

Sometimes the smartest decision isn't certainty.

It's probability.

What Is Considered a Good SAT Score?

This is one of my favourite questions.

Because the honest answer is...

It depends.

A score means very little without context.

Think about it this way.

Scoring 1400 is fantastic.

Unless you're applying to a university where the average admitted student scores around 1550.

Likewise...

A score of 1250 might feel disappointing.

Until you realise it's comfortably above the typical requirement for many excellent universities.

In other words...

A "good" SAT score isn't a universal number.

It's the score that aligns with your target colleges.

That's why I always tell students:

Don't chase someone else's dream score.

Chase the score your application actually needs.

Does A Harder Second Module Mean A Higher Score?

This question deserves its own section because it causes endless confusion.

The short answer?

Not automatically.

A more difficult second module generally suggests that you performed well in the first module.

That's encouraging.

But it doesn't guarantee a particular score.

Your final result still depends on how well you perform across the entire exam.

Think of it like qualifying for the finals of a tournament.

Reaching the finals is a great sign.

Winning still depends on how you play.

Can One Bad Module Ruin Your Score?

Thankfully...

No.

Every student has questions they wish they could answer again.

Every student.

One difficult passage.

One confusing graph.

One algebra question that refuses to cooperate.

None of these define your score.

The SAT measures your performance across the entire exam—not one unlucky moment.

So if you stumble on a few questions...

Move on.

Protect your time.

Protect your confidence.

The next question is worth just as much attention as the previous one.

Percentiles: What Do They Actually Mean?

Soon after receiving their scores, students often notice something called a percentile.

It sounds technical.

It's actually quite straightforward.

If your score places you in the 90th percentile, it simply means you performed better than approximately 90% of students in the comparison group.

It doesn't mean you answered 90% of the questions correctly.

Those are completely different ideas.

Percentiles compare students.

Scores measure performance.

Don't Obsess Over the Last 20 Points

I've seen students spend three months trying to improve from 1540 to 1560...

...while another student improves from 980 to 1320 in exactly the same period.

Guess who achieved the bigger transformation?

Sometimes we become so focused on a number that we forget what the number represents.

Progress.

Whether your goal is 1100, 1300, 1450 or 1550, every improvement reflects stronger skills, better habits, and greater confidence.

Celebrate the climb.

Not just the summit.

Before You Start Preparing...

Now that you understand the pattern, the syllabus, and the scoring system, one question remains.

How should you actually prepare?

Should you study for six months?

Three months?

Can you prepare while balancing school?

Should you solve hundreds of questions every day?

Or is there a smarter way?

How to Prepare for the Digital SAT (Without Burning Yourself Out)

Step 2: Build Your Foundation Before Chasing Speed

One mistake appears in almost every batch I teach.

Students start timing themselves on Day One.

It's understandable.

The SAT is a timed exam.

But trying to solve questions quickly before understanding them is like trying to drive faster before learning how to steer.

First learn the concept.

Then learn the method.

Only then should you worry about the clock.

Speed is usually the outcome of confidence.

Not the other way around.

Step 3: Practise Like the Real Exam

Reading one passage while sitting on your bed...

Checking Instagram...

Replying to WhatsApp...

Watching half a YouTube video...

Then returning to the passage...

That's not SAT preparation.

That's multitasking.

And the SAT doesn't test multitasking.

Whenever possible, recreate exam conditions.

Silence.

A timer.

No unnecessary distractions.

This is probably the advice students ignore the most.

After finishing a practice test, many immediately ask,

"What's my score?"

Fair question.

But I usually ask something different.

"Why did you lose those marks?"

That's where the real learning begins.

Every incorrect answer belongs to one of a few categories.

"Sir, which is the best SAT book?"

...I'd probably have enough money to buy every SAT book.

Here's the truth.

Most students don't suffer from a lack of resources.

They suffer from an excess of them.

One book.

Then another.

Three YouTube channels.

Four websites.

Five PDFs.

Six vocabulary apps.

Eventually...

They're studying everything.

And mastering nothing.

Choose a small number of high-quality resources.

Complete them thoroughly.

Then move on.

Depth almost always beats variety.

Step 7: Analyse Your Weaknesses Honestly

This may be the hardest step.

Not because it's academically difficult.

Because it requires honesty.

Some students keep solving geometry questions...

...even though algebra is where they're losing most of their marks.

Why?

Yes.

They help you avoid common mistakes, create a realistic study plan, identify patterns in your performance, and keep your preparation focused.

Think of it this way.

Could you climb a mountain on your own?

Probably.

Would an experienced guide make the journey smoother?

Very likely.

The choice depends on your goals, learning style, and how much structure you feel you need.

The Biggest Lesson I Want You to Remember

After teaching for years, I've noticed something interesting.

Students rarely fail because they're "not smart enough."

More often, they struggle because they prepare without a plan.

They practise without reviewing.

They chase shortcuts instead of building skills.

Or they compare their Chapter 2 with someone else's Chapter 20.

The SAT doesn't reward perfection.

Ask someone who spent a few months understanding the exam pattern, practising consistently, and analysing their mistakes, and you'll probably hear something very different.

The SAT isn't designed to be impossible.

It's designed to reward preparation.

Like most things in life, it feels much easier once you know what you're doing.

2. Can I prepare for the SAT without coaching?

Absolutely.

Many students prepare independently using official practice tests and high-quality study resources.

The key isn't whether you join coaching.

It's whether you have a structured study plan, reliable material, and the discipline to review your mistakes honestly.

That said, a good mentor can help you avoid common pitfalls, personalise your preparation, and often save you a great deal of time.

3. How long should I prepare for the SAT?

There's no universal answer because every student starts from a different point.

As a general guideline:

The Digital SAT provides a built-in Desmos Graphing Calculator throughout the Math section.

You may also use an approved handheld calculator if you prefer.

The important thing to remember is that calculators help you perform calculations.

They don't decide which calculation you should perform.

Understanding the concept is still the most valuable skill.

6. Is there negative marking?

No.

There is no negative marking on the Digital SAT.

If you're unsure about an answer, making an educated guess is usually better than leaving the question unanswered.

You can't earn marks from a blank space.

7. How many times can I take the SAT?

The College Board offers the SAT multiple times each year.

You're free to take the exam more than once if you wish to improve your score.

Many students perform better on a second attempt simply because they're more familiar with the testing experience.

8. What is a good SAT score?

A "good" score depends entirely on the universities you're targeting.

Rather than chasing a random number you saw online, research the typical SAT score range of admitted students at your target universities and set your goal accordingly.

9. Should I take the SAT in Class 11 or Class 12?

There's no single correct answer.

Many students begin preparing in Class 11, take their first attempt towards the end of the year, and, if necessary, take the exam again in Class 12.

Starting earlier generally gives you more flexibility and reduces unnecessary pressure during application season.

10. Where should I begin?

Start by understanding the exam.

You're already doing that.

Then take a diagnostic test.

Identify your strengths and weaknesses.
